Facilitating Ownership & Learning via the Socratic Method

One of the biggest challenges to improved behavior and performance is ensuring that learning has both occurred and is going to be effectively applied, even when the going gets tough. One of the most important contributors to successful implementation and change is personal ownership of the learning. Over two thousand years ago the great teacher philosopher Socrates mastered a method for achieving both maximum learning and ownership. This work session actively explores these approach for all of those willing to participate and contribute.
Wayne has over 20 years’ experience in Organizational Development and Human Resource Management delivering value generating services to both internal and external clients in a variety of industries and organizations, including private and public, domestic and international, for profit and not for profit. Before beginning his career he completed his academic studies and began his thirst for life learning at the University of Utah. Wayne currently serves as the Director of Corporate Leadership Development for CHG Healthcare Services.

Getting Off the Worry Treadmill – And Teaching Others to Do the Same

Our brains are designed to defend us when they perceive that we are being threatened. We instinctively respond to the world differently – defensively - during these moments and we are grateful. We react quickly when being cut-off on the freeway. We wrestle the attacking lion. But the system serves us well only when our assessment of threat and non-threat is accurate. Many careers and workdays have been ruined through inappropriate responses and time wasted engaged in worry. We can get better at battling our intrusive thoughts and we can coach others to do the same. Optimism can be learned and taught. But we need a plan.
Don (Manager of Sales Education and Customer Engagement) is committed to the learning and teaching of strategies to help people become “unstuck” in their careers and personal lives. He is fascinated by what makes us flourish. Don encourages and teaches customer focused sales techniques, leadership development, emotional intelligence and the behaviors of servant leadership.
