2020 Chapter Board of Directors


ATD Utah is led by an all-volunteer board of directors. The board is charged with maintaining an ethically-responsible organization that complies with federal and state laws, and the bylaws of the chapter and of ATD. Jason Sturges

Elias Adams
Past President

Jason Sturges, Med, CPLP is the Sr. Learning & Development Associate for BioFire Diagnostics. In this role, he creates & manages comprehensive organizational training & development programs; sources, coordinates and develops/delivers relevant content; and assess & identifies knowledge & skill requirements at both an organizational level – and, in collaboration with managers – at a departmental level too.  

As an avid reader and change agent, Jason’s research and consulting pursuits embrace the talent management/development, human resources, and organizational design & development arenas. Specific topics/projects in the past have included: corporate orientation/on-boarding, team development, trainer development, facilitation & presentation skills, coaching/mentoring, leadership development, program planning, and learning transfer.










R. Elias Adams is the Senior Director of Learning and Development at England Logistics, where he has spent the last seven years.  Throughout his 20 year career he has been involved in facilitating, designing and developing new hire, continuous improvement, sales and leadership courses.  He received a Business Administration degree from Weber State University and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.    

Shannon Herrera

President Elect

 

Shannon Herrera is currently the Content Curation Manager for Go1. In this role, she helps match organizations with the eLearning to meet their training needs. Prior to Go1, she was a Senior Instructional Designer at AllenComm.  She has been involved in training and development for the past 15 years and has her master's degree in Instructional Design from Purdue University.  She has been involved in the Utah ATD since 2017. She is passionate about helping learners find their 'aha' moments and connecting L&D professionals in our community.

Yvette Amparo-Espinoza
VP of Finance

Yvette Amparo-Espinoza is the Training and Development Coordinator at Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District. She is originally from New York and has made Utah her home for the past 27 years. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resources Management and is passionate about learning and sharing what she learns. She has really dedicated herself to helping others succeed through mentoring and coaching. She believes that even if something doesn’t need fixing, it could always be improved.


 
Ray deWolfe
VP of Professional Development


Ray deWolfe is the Assistance Vice President of Employee Experience at Mountain America Credit Union. His team oversees multiple programs including performance management, employee engagement, employee wellness, and the employee lifecycle survey strategy. Prior to this role, he served as the Talent Development manager overseeing a team of trainers responsible for delivering, creating, and evaluating training programs. Ray is a proud Utah native and spends his free time snowboarding, mountain biking, playing soccer, and riding his motorcycle.

 




 

Nathan Nielsen

Conference

Nathan Nielsen has more than 20 years of experience in the field of training and development and HR management serving in a variety of leadership and project management roles.  He is a certified facilitator in several of the Vital Smarts' training courses, Leadership Transitions, MBTI and Insight 360 coaching.  With a passion for development, he has a personal goal of facilitating the discovery of development in everyone he meets.

Chris Kendrick is a 20-year seasoned consultant, speaker and trainer specializing in employee engagement and performance culture. His work with partners like Bank of America, American Express, Ford, In and Out and Office Max has given Chris a unique insight into the difficulties today’s leaders face, and the skills essential to their success.He’s currently thriving in his role as Director of Training with Values Worth Sharing, developing and delivering content that “makes work more rewarding.”When he’s not helping organizations drive and sustain their mission, vision and values, Chris enjoys photography, 4 children, and…acting!  He was in an episode of “ER” and once had a scene with Anthony Hopkins. He also once met Bobby Brown in the Dallas Airport
 
Richard Vass

Richard Vass is a dynamic, experienced consultant and professional facilitator with over 25 years in the field of human performance and development. As co-founder and Director of Customer Experience at eLearning Brothers Custom, Richard has forged a number of deep relationships with leaders in the field of professional learning services and has provided significant contributions to an impressive list of clients. Prior to eLearning Brothers, Richard co-founded impact Solutions – a professional learning services company service focusing on comprehensive learning solutions for domestic and international clients with a focus on the MENA region.  

Richard has also worked as a National Training and Design Manager for Discover Financial Services and Morgan Stanley MasterCard operations. In this role he managed curriculum for over 4,500 employees in five states and was recognized nationally on a number of occasions for significant, innovative accomplishments in the training arena that resulted in greater speed to competence and dramatic improvements in employee retention. 

 In November, 2008 Richard was recognized by the Association of Talent Development (ATD) as a Certified Professional in Learning and Performance and served as president of the ATD Utah Chapter in 2011. He is currently active in local leadership and national learning strategy for ATD.
